Terence MacSwiney Community College was built on an 11 acre site on Hollyhill, and opened to the first students in the spring of 1979. The school was officially opened in March 1980 and dedicated to the memory of Terence MacSwiney (Scoil Mhic Shuibhne).
As well as providing a full range of subjects at Junior and Leaving Certificate for the young people of Knocknaheeny, MacSwiney Community College has been to the forefront of developing and implementing new programs in response to local needs. Currently the Junior Certificate Schools Programme (JCSP), Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) and Leaving Certificate Applied Programme (LCA) are available to second level pupils enrolled at the College.
More recently, the College has developed a range of Post Leaving Certificate courses for adult learners and has been proactive in its delivery of the Department of Education and Sciences Back to Education Initiative (BTEI).
