11th Cork Lifelong Learning Festival – Monday April 7 to Sunday April 13

Cork’s Lifelong Learning Festival promotes the idea that learning is fun and is not necessarily about gaining a qualification, although it can be, but is also about making life more fulfilling and enjoyable.

Its motto is Investigate, Participate, Celebrate and its aims are:

  • to celebrate those already participating in learning of all kinds;
  • to raise awareness of the huge range of options there are over the city and beyond
  • for others to get involved.

Lifelong learning is not only about adult and continuing education, and is more than acquiring skills and qualifications – it’s a process which lasts throughout our lives, and includes all kinds of learning – from crafts, IT, languages, to the arts, sports and a whole lot more.

That’s reflected in the festival’s week long programme, which offers a choice of 500 different events, all free, so there really is something for everyone, whatever their age, interest or ability.

Events take place all over the city & beyond as organisations throw open their doors to welcome the public. Some events take place on the streets, others in libraries, in family & community centres, schools, colleges, shopping centres, sportsgrounds, theatres, galleries….   They include performances, taster classes, demonstrations, talks, tours & a whole lot more.

The festival is organised by a voluntary committee drawn from the Cork City Learning Forum, which was set up by the Cork City Development Board. Its main sponsors are Cork Education & Training Board and Cork City Council. Festival Patron is the Lord Mayor of Cork.

Other sponsors are: the HSE, QQI (Quality & Qualifications Ireland); Cork Institute of Technology, Adult Continuing Education at UCC, the National Association of Principals & Deputy Principals (NAPD), the HEA – Higher Education Authority – Access Office; Ballyphehane Credit Union; Blacknight Internet Solutions; The River Lee Hotel.

Co-operation Ireland’s Cork branch supports its cross border projects.

Media sponsors are 96fm & The Evening Echo.

Partners: Féile an Phobail in Belfast & Limerick Lifelong Learning Festival.
